ATLANTA (May 9, 2019) – Atlanta Technical College will hold its annual commencement ceremony at the Georgia International Convention Center on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Beginning at 11 am, Mr. Richard Cox, Chief Operating Officer of the City of Atlanta, will serve as the keynote speaker.
“We are thrilled to be celebrating another successful year at Atlanta Technical College by sending over 1,400 students into the workforce with world-class credentials,” said Dr. Victoria Seals, President, Atlanta Technical College. “These students are passionate about their chosen careers, and I’m confident they will reach new heights as they begin this exciting new chapter in their lives. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to impact our students, and I look forward to seeing all they accomplish after they walk across the stage.”
This year, Atlanta Technical College will graduate 1,447 students in the class of 2019. Some of the graduates have earned more than one credential, and the class will be awarded 275 associate’s degrees, 441 diplomas, and 1,621 technical certificates of credit.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Mr. Cox as our keynote speaker,” said Dr. Seals. “He has distinguished himself as a leader that our students can look up to. I know he will bring an inspirational message that will benefit all of our graduates, as well as their friends and families.”
About Richard Cox
Richard Cox presently serves as the City of Atlanta’s Chief Operations Officer, a position that encompasses oversight and executive management for the city’s operating departments including aviation, fire, police, corrections, parks and recreation, planning, public works, and watershed management.
He is a loaned executive from Cox Automotive, a division of Cox Enterprises, Inc. Richard has held numerous positions at Cox Automotive including Vice President of Business Operations supporting Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book.
He began his career at Worldspan (now Travelport), an Atlanta-based travel technology and content provider, where he held several positions during his tenure including Director of Worldwide Operations. He also served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Jones International University (JIU), a Denver online-based university. Prior to joining JIU, Cox served as Vice President of Customer Experience at Orbitz Worldwide, a leading online travel company, where he provided organizational strategy and was responsible for customer care, quality assurance, and vendor and workforce management.
Cox has served on the Atlanta Board of Directors for Year Up, the Super Bowl LVIII Host Committee Board of Directors, and serves on the Cox Automotive Diversity Council. He holds a M.B.A. in Management Information Systems from Kennesaw State University.
