Atlanta Technical College’s (ATC) Early Education Center recently received Georgia’s highest Quality Rated score – 3 stars – for their child care and Pre-K programs.
“Early childhood education is the true foundation of lifelong learning,” said Dr. Victoria Seals, President, ATC. “Our Early Education Center staff has demonstrated a clear commitment to excellence in all that they do, and I’m proud that the state has recognized their efforts. I would like to thank Dr. Whittle and the entire Early Education Center team for their tireless work in educating the next generation of Atlanta Technical College’s dynamic student body.”
Quality Rated is Georgia’s system to determine, improve, and communicate the quality of programs that provide child care. ATC’s Early Education Center’s rating was assigned after the programs exceeded state health and safety requirements, met numerous quality benchmarks, and received high independent observation scores.
“This rating is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Early Education Center staff,” said Dr. Marsha Whittle, ATC’s Early Education Coordinator. “We embrace the individuality of each student as we work to ensure they are ready – educationally, emotionally, and socially – for elementary school when they leave us. We are grateful Quality Rated acknowledged our safe place of learning for our students and we will continue to work to make sure we exceed expectations set forth by the State of Georgia.”
Similar to rating systems for restaurants and hotels, Quality Rated assigns one, two, or three stars to early education and school-age care programs that meet or exceed the minimum state requirements. By participating in Georgia’s voluntary Quality Rated program, centers make a commitment to work continuously to improve the quality of care they provide to children and families.
Quality Rated gives parents and families greater confidence in their child care choice because independent, credentialed experts in early education have assessed whether programs follow best practices, such as:
- Employing qualified and well-trained teachers
- Providing a safe, healthy, and caring environment
- Implementing individualized instruction
- Offering a curriculum that prepares children for kindergarten
- Providing a focus on both active learning and social-emotional development
- Engaging families
- Providing a low teacher-student ratio
