Last month, Atlanta Technical College (ATC) joined community partner Atlanta Public Schools (APS) to hold the annual Health and Wellness Expo. Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community had the opportunity to receive free health screenings, attend seminars, and participate in various health-related workshops.
“Health and wellness is a very complex issue – it’s vitally important to improve access to simple tests that can literally save lives,” said Dr. Victoria Seals, President, Atlanta Technical College. “This year, we offered more resources than ever before so that our students, faculty, and communities can be their best selves. A thriving community is a healthy community, and we are incredibly thankful for the resources our partners and vendors contributed to this year’s expo.”
Expo attendees received complimentary strength and flexibility, vision, cholesterol, and HIV testing. These influential health oriented businesses and organizations also offered workshops, seminars, and healthy habit demonstrations, conducted by some of Atlanta’s top physicians, nutritionists, and health specialists.
“Each year, our Health and Wellness Expo continues to evolve as we strive to leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve,” said Yulonda Darden Beauford, Vice President, Economic Development. “We understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and this event is designed to empower our communities to truly live their best lives. I would like to the thank the sponsors and vendors who made this event possible – we remain committed to making every member of our Atlanta Technical College family is ATC Strong.”
ATC and Atlanta Public Schools (APS) were joined by four community sponsors who played an integral role in the expo’s success: CareSource, Southern Regional Medical Center, Thorpe Enterprises, and Vital Link. More than 50 vendors were represented at this year’s event including: AFLAC, Diabetes Association of Atlanta, Inc., Emory University School of Medicine, Piedmont Physicians of Cascade/Piedmont Clinic, and WellStar Atlanta Medical Center South.
