Ms. Keisha Hudson is Honored as Teacher of the Year

ATLANTA (December 9, 2021) – Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is proud to honor Ms. Keisha Hudson as its 2022 Rick Perkins Award recipient for Teacher of the Year. Ms. Hudson is a Paralegal Studies instructor who has worked as an instructor at ATC since 2010 and a Program Coordinator since 2014. Her commitment to the Paralegal program resulted in consistently high enrollment numbers, graduation rates, and job placement for students. Some program highlights include participation in the annual Civil Rights Symposium, mock interviews, and alumni panels with working local professionals.

“Great instructors are the backbone of our college community,” said ATC President Dr. Victoria Seals. “Students come for the educational opportunity, but they stay because the educators care and make all of this possible. We appreciate the time, dedication, and hard work from each of our Rick Perkins participants and congratulate Ms. Hudson for her achievement. Their flexibility during the pandemic and willingness to go above and beyond their job requirements to improve the lives of our students are what makes ATC great.”

“I see education as transformative and my role as an educator as a conduit for creating lifelong learners.  As such, I do not view education as having a beginning and end, but as being an ongoing process,” said Ms. Hudson. “As a legal studies instructor for almost 10 years, I strive to bridge academic learning with practical experience.  I set high expectations and encourage students to take ownership of their education.  I am humbled to serve as a change agent during that process.”

ATC would also like to acknowledge the following Runners Up: Ms. Valerie Steele-Hancock, English; Ms. Amanda Daniels, Pharmacy Technology; and Mr. Von Gatewood, Supply Chain Management.

ABOUT THE RICK PERKINS AWARD

The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. The award has been an ongoing statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Formerly known as the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence, the award was renamed in honor and memory of Thomas “Rick” Perkins, an instructor at West Georgia Technical College, formerly known as West Central Technical College, who received the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence prior to his untimely death. The Technical College System of Georgia provides oversight for the Rick Perkins Award program through the system’s office and the state planning committee.
