ATLANTA (December 20, 2019) – Atlanta Technical College (ATC) recently hosted MANCODE, Microsoft’s technology program designed to introduce coding and opportunities in the tech industry to African American students at an early age. All the instructors for this event were African American males, brought in to emphasize the focus of the event.
“We are always looking for ways to innovate here at Atlanta Technical College,” said Dr. Victoria Seals, President of ATC. “With Silicon Valley and the tech companies proving that they are an integral part of our economy, we need to continue to invest in underrepresented minority groups to help them remain competitive. We appreciate Microsoft for selecting Atlanta Technical College as a venue for its coding courses and we are grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the development of new learning techniques for our local communities.”
MANCODE is a learning initiative designed to push African American students towards the tech industry by introducing concepts and making it accessible for them. By providing learning opportunities, the goal is to minimize the minority representation gap, especially among African Americans, within the tech industry. Approximately 450 middle and high school age male African American students from across the metro Atlanta area attended the event, and Atlanta rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris participated in the closing panel information session.
Microsoft is one of the largest tech companies in the world and a leading authority in the realm of coding and software engineering. Founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen over 40 years ago, Microsoft has come to represent technological innovation and provides numerous opportunities for growth, including MANCODE.
