No. You can apply for Financial Aid anytime and it is highly recommended that you apply by July 1st preceding the academic year you plan to enroll and no later than 8 weeks prior to your targeted date of enrollment; however, you must be fully admitted and enrolled in classes to receive funding.

Yes. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA starting October 1st of each year for the next academic year. Please note that students must reapply each year if you intend to use federal and state aid.

Once funds are disbursed to student accounts, all refund processing typically begins around the 4^th week of each semester. After the initial refund date, the ATC Business Office processes refunds every 14 business days thereafter. All students enrolled in a combination of Term 1 and Term 3 courses will not receive their total refund based on credit balances shown in BannerWeb. Term 3 refunds will be held until that term begins. Once enrollment has been confirmed, funds will be released for refund processing. All refunds will be processed and disbursed through BankMobile.

Disbursement Date: Date in which Financial Aid funds are posted to student accounts.

Refund Date: Date in which Financial Aid funds are released to the student by the ATC Office of Student Accounts

Possibly. Students who have graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA or higher, may be eligible for HOPE Scholarship. Students who did not graduate from High School with a 3.0 GPA or higher may gain HOPE Scholarship eligibility after attempting 30, 60 or 90 credit hours with a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Please click here for instructions on how to view your authorized Financial Aid by term. In the Authorized Financial Aid section, if a (-) amount is populated for Account Balance net of Authroized Financial Aid, this means that tuition and fees are paid in full. The (-) credit balance can be used in the Atlanta Technical College bookstore during the Financial Aid book charging period. All remaining (-) credit balances will be refunded.

Possibly, after you have attempted 30, 60 or 90 semester hours that will transfer to your degree program with a cumulative 3.0 GPA at the appropriate checkpoint. (All prior College credit taken will be counted toward attempted hours).

It may affect the type of aid you are eligible for (i.e., if you change your degree status from Diploma to Associate). All students are encouraged to speak with their Academic Advisor regarding a major change. After the major change has been completed, all students must speak with their assigned Financial Aid Specialist to ensure Financial Aid awards have been updated properly.

Per federal regulations, a student who meets any of the following criteria is classified as an independent student if:

• If they are over the age of 24,
• Currently serving on active duty military orders for purposes other than training,
• Classified as a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces,
• Has dependents and provide more than 50% of support,
• Married,
• Classified as an orphan, foster child, or ward/dependent of the court at any time since the age of 13,
• Classified as a emancipated minor or in legal guardianship,
• Classified as homeless.

Satisfatcory Academic Progress is evaluated at the end of each term based on ALL courses attempted while enrolled at Atlanta Technical College, not individual terms. It is possible that all courses were passed for an individual term, but still did not meet the minimum cumulative requirements to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. click here for information regarding Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Yes, a cap of 63 paid semester hours (or 95 quarter hours) for certificate and diploma programs for the HOPE Grant Program and 127 semester hours (or 190 quarter hours) for degree programs for the HOPE Scholarship Program. There is also a combined cap of 127 grant and scholarship semester hours (or 190 combined quarter hours). If you reach 127 combined hours before you reach paid 63 grant hours, you lose your eligibility for grant hours.

A degree, diploma, or certificate student who is registered for at least 12 credit hours is considered to be a full-time student. Enrolling in fewer credit hours for a specific term may affect eligibility for Financial Aid or Veteran's benefits for enrollment certification. Continuing Education credits are not included in the student's enrollment calculation.

Enrollment Status Classifications:

Full-Time: Enrolled in 12 or more credit hours

Three-Quarter Time: Enrolled between 9 - 11 credit hours

Half- Time: Enrolled between 6-8 credit hours

Less Than Half Time: Enrolled between 1-5 credit hours

Work Study is a federally funded program that provides part-time employment on campus to students. It offers exposure to real work experiences, development of positive work ethics and time management skills. Recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or greater and a 67% completion rate.

It depends on the student's Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status at the time of withdrawal or last date of academic related activity. Students who receive federal funds may have to repay funds if they totally withdraw prior to the 60% point of the term.

Students who withdraw from all of their courses for the term must complete a withdrawal form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office. Those who fail to complete the official withdrawal form may be required to pay a portion or all federal aid received based on last date of academic related activiity reported by instructors.
